Die2Nite - Game 2 - Day 3

Well we got through another night, miraculously, completely unscathed! But having a quick look at the map, and we're in a world of hurt!

Our watchtower upgrades give us a pretty good idea of the surrounding area and those zombies have been busy.

I do my usual 12 hour scavenge and come back with some useful stuff for the town, even killing a few zombies on the way out. I filled a plastic bag with water and took out 2 zombies with my makeshift water bomb. They don't like water apparently. Dirty swines.

Our biggest problem is inactivity. We only have a handful of people scavenging each day. Without these precious resources, we cannot build up defenses. Some people still haven't built their starter tent!

We're looking at between 65 and 90 zombies tonight with only 63 defenses. If I don't wake up tomorrow, tell scarlet that I do give a damn!

Die2Nite - Game 2 - Day 2

Woke up this morning to read the old newspaper...

Looks like we're skirting the fine line between life and death at the moment. That's what our roster says too. We just don't have enough active, organised people and there's only so much herding of cats you can do. In my last town, there was loads of activity. Loads and loads of forum posts and I believe that that town is still going. Frankly, I'd be surprised if we lasted 2 more nights.

What happens is that the zombies get progressively more each night, so you have to keep building up your defenses to keep up with the rising tide. If we're barely scraping through the first night, I feel like we're already behind the curve.

Here's tonights information:

So we're looking at 60 odd zombies with only 55 defenses. Lets hope we finish the projects we're working on otherwise we'll have a few more picked off tonight. With less people each day, there's less people to go out scavenging for precious materials on a daily basis with which to build defenses. It's a slippery slope.

I also found out last night that the zombie nightly movement only lasts a couple of hours. So I moved off into the wilderness and scavenged all night. When I checked back, I had more stuff to take back than I could carry. In this case, you mark the zone as having stuff there, and hope that someone else will come along and pick it up later.

The icon that looks like a little collection of stones means that the zone has been depleted. That's bound to happen quickly close by to town. The rucksack symbol means someone has marked that they found something that they couldn't get home. And the colored squares means zombies. Yellow squares are just a smattering, orange are 3 or 4 and red is a horde.

There are ways to kill zombies out in the wild but I've not done that yet and I'm not desperate enough to try!

Die2Nite - Game 2 - Day 1

Here we go again...
Another life, another town.

This game, I'm joined by a RL friend, Moonman. I'll get some stories from him too. It's his first time playing. I wonder who'll last longer. My track record doesn't sit well.

Despite that, this time, I feel much more confident.

I did all my daily tasks, and stepped into the wilderness.

And right into a small pack of zombies.

There were 4 of them and I decided that rather than flee straight away, I'd weigh my options. Turns out that if there are 1 or 2 zombies, you out-man them and can pass right through. If there are 3 or 4, you can call for back-up and someone can come to the same zone and lend their strength. Then after the first person leaves, you have 30 minutes to leave also.

I was just getting ready to post my forum begging letter when some kind soul came and rescued me without asking! How jolly nice of them. After that, I continued to explore and hunkered down in a safe zone to scavenge for the rest of the day.

I checked back 4 hours later and packed up my bags and trundled home with my meager stash.

Later still, I read a call-out from the forums. Some poor soul is stuck, one zone away from town. He's already taken his water and food rations for the day so he needs either drugs or alcohol to get his necessary 1 AP to crawl back to the (relative) safety of the town gates. After a while of no response, and with no known drugs or alcohol in the bank), I spot that we have some unknown drugs. I tell him and he's willing to try. I gobble down my moldy biscuits for 6 AP, grab up the drugs and head out on my Rambo rescue mission.

I drop off the drugs next to him and use my remaining points to explore the nearby zones. I come away with a plastic bag and a patch and take them back home. He messages me to thank me and tells me that they were Antibacterials and he's hooked on drugs. This sounds very familiar to me. At least he got home. I suppose we'll have to support his crack habit from now on if we want him to continue to help him.

It was inevitable

It's pretty sad that I can't even survive a second night!

Ah well, some lessons learned, my soul will go on. I'm going to restart a new town today and see if I can do a little better next time.

I did have some better screenshots, but I forgot to post them. Must do better next time.

Die2Nite - Day 2

Things have gone from "head wound" to worse...

Lets start with the courier. Good first night for the town. Only the noobs that didn't come back in before the gate had to close got gobbled up. Probably best to get rid of dead weight (so to speak).

Unfortunately, I spot that I've contracted a disease. And this one is a doozie. I posted a thread calling for help on our forum.

Oh dear.

Never fear.

I decided to head out into the wilderness and spend a couple of hours searching for stuff. Hoping beyond hope to find drugs and a bandage. Unfortunately, didn't find anything useful. So I headed home with my tail between my legs.

My next plan of attack was to check the bank and the homes of my neighbors. If the bank didn't have what I needed, then I could either beg or steal from other citizens. One guy had some bandages and the bank had some random drugs.

This was my one and only chance, take the unknown drugs, hope for the best, then steal from the bandage man.

Turns out they were animal steriods. I'm now completely hooked on steroids. I have to take some every day or I will die.

This is my situation, not good.

I figure I'll spend my action points doing good for the community. Then find a corner to go to sleep in for the night. Looks like this game might be over quickly for me. I might be reincarnated quicker than I expected.

Die2Nite - Day 1

Rock Paper Shotgun's Quinns has done it again. Gotten me hooked on a new browser based game, this one called Die2Nite.
Go ahead and read about the game from the above links first, and to get an idea of what I've let my self in for before continuing here.

All done?

Good. Then we'll begin.

I'm in a little town called "The promenade of Heartache", with not much idea what I'm supposed to be doing. I've followed the in-game instructions and made my first shaky steps into this scary world.

So far, I've:
  • Built a tent (it's a free upgrade from a hole in the ground)
  • Contributed to building a gate lock (so the gates cannot be opened in the middle of the night by unscrupulous types)
  • Scanned the horizon for zombies (giving the town a better picture of the surrounding areas)
  • Withdrew water from the well (for a quick energy drink)
  • Went for a walk into the wilderness
And that's where it went a little bit wrong. Firstly, I thought I'd run out of energy and have to beg for someone to come and help me. But a quick drink fixed me right up. Secondly, I kept wandering into depleted areas and having to move on (costing me yet more energy). Thirdly, I wandered into a horde of zombies. I was outnumbered 6 to 1 and had to flee for my life. During my daring escape, I sustained a head wound and as a result, have one less maximum energy. Ouch. Not sure how to fix myself up.

Oh and I also found another doggy-bag and some scrap metal that appears useless.

The town forums are quite useful. They help organize the town and plan things. Cooperation is absolutely key for survival. Selfish people are potentially very detrimental. So much so that an order has been given in our town that if you were to build a hovel (extra protection for yourself incase the zombies get in), a vote is cast for banishment. Not sure if that's particularly harsh or not but I'm going with the masses at the moment until I get my feet.

Rebrand

I've decided to switch this blog around a little bit.

Rather than use this for reviews, I thought I'd use it to continue my gaming diary love.

Previously, I've written a couple of gaming diaries for Neptune's Pride and Space station 13. For each of those, I've set up their own blog page. No longer will that be the case! I'm just going to put all and any diaries I decide to do on here instead.

I may do some impressions posts, but we'll see.

Here are the links from my previous diaries:
